LITHUANIA: GDP up 5.9% in 2011

Lithuania's GDP rose in 2011 by a seasonally and working day adjusted 5.9%, a flash estimate by the statistics department LSD shows.

The growth rate fell somewhere in the middle of the analyst consensus range that forecast the economy to expand between 5.5% and 6.4%.

According to LSD, all economic activities produced a positive growth in added value last year with construction (+15%) as well as trade, transport and communication services (+7.3%) fuelling the growth.

Economic expansion slowed down in Q4 2011 to 4.5%, the year's slowest rate, after peaking at +7.3% in Q3 (Q1: +5.4%, Q2: +6.5%).

Analysts predict economic growth to slow down considerably in 2012 to around 3%.

A more detailed statistical view on Lithuania's GDP in 2011 will be released at the end of February.
