- Although acting president Bronislaw Komorowski has won the first round of presidential elections in Poland with 41% of votes, his main opponent Jaroslaw Kaczynski gained only five percentage points less. Since no candidate has earned absolute majority, a second round will be needed and the chances for both politicians to get Poland's top job seem almost equal. (Page 15)
- Poland's number one fruit and vegetable processor Agros Nova has a new owner. Two years after purchasing railway component maker Axtone, Nordic fund IK Investment Partners has added a second sector-leading company to its Polish portfolio. (Page 6)
- In a move well received by market experts, the parliament has elected former Prime Minister and top International Monetary Fund official Marek Belka as the governor of Poland's central bank NBP.
